Can You Use Customers' Names Too Many Times?
When I worked in guest services at The Ritz Carlton, I noticed some employees had a tendency to overuse guests' names. Unfortunately, after a certain point, it worked in reverse. (Especially in conversations under 7 minutes)Name overkill doesn't just happen in the hotel industry - it's everywhere. Sure, we know people love to hear their names more than any word in the dictionary. But there comes a point where customers are thinking to themselves, "Alright, I got it. You know my name. That's enough!"Each point on this graph represents a single moment when a customer hears his name in a short (about 7 minute) transaction. Here's how it makes him feel:A, nada - "They didn't even use my name once. I don't feel valued."B, once - "Ahhh...the cashier said 'Mr. Lynch.' Man, you gotta love this store."C, twice - "Whoa! Two times! This salesman has a great memory. Now that's what I call service!"D, thrice - "Alright (mild chuckle) - I got it. You know my name. Thank you very much."E, four times - "No, seriously, you don't have to keep using my name. The first two times were enough."F, five times - "This is

Why We Buy - to Avoid PAIN!
Our innate drive to maintain our “comfort zone” directly affects how and what we purchase. Pain versus pleasure, similarity versus unfamiliarity and comfort versus stress; self inflected or not, are all feelings and emotions that affect most facets of our lives. How we deal with such emotion volatility directly affects our motivations to buy things that make us feel better.Humans prefer pleasure, avoid pain, seek familiarity and would rather be comfortable than stressed out. Jack LaLane’s famous exercise philosophy of the 1960’s, “No Pain, No Gain” does not apply to most of us.We all like things to be “just so”, always in line with our expectations. Anything that rattles our comfort zone generally leads to an action response, a reaction, immediate pursuit of problem resolution. Herein lies a fundamental basis for sales professionals to leverage our natural tendency to seek and purchase things that help us avoid pain.Selling is truly a Painful ProcessMost selling situations involve collaborative problem or pain definition between a salesperson and a buying prospect. The sales representative ultimately attempts to educate the potential buyer about how costly it is to them of NO

How to Buy and Sell Websites
Buying and selling websites has become a popular business model comparable to buying or selling real estate. Some people even make their living from buying and selling websites. If you have a website you want to sell, or are considering buying a website, there are certain guidelines you will want to follow to make sure you get the best deal possible. The price for a website may vary. You will find some sites that are as low as $35 or as high as $20,000. There are a number of different factors that will determine the price of a website. The age of a website is very important. Websites which have been online for 2 years or longer tend to have more traffic and better search engine rankings. Websites which are well taken care of will age like wine, and their value will increase. The Google PageRank of a website is also important. Sites with a higher PageRank are generally worth more.Another important factor in valuing a website is traffic. Traffic equals money. A website which gets 900 visitors a day will be more expensive to purchase than a website that only gets 50 visitors a day. The more traffic a website has, the more money you will make in affiliate sells, direct sells, or advertising. If you are thinkin

Can a Little Guy Battle the Gurus in the Game of Internet Marketing?
You may think that thousands of people are flocking online daily to seek out their rightful place among Internet marketing giants who have created a virtual empire of passive profits. But while they may be looking into it, many prospective Internet marketers are too intimidated to actually do anything to stake their claim. The primary reason? They don’t know how to produce a product with an unusual or unique slant. Many newbie ‘net marketers believe that if one person is already successfully selling an information product on affiliate marketing, then there’s no room at the top, so they drop their dreams and return to the shackles of a 9-5 daily grind in corporate America (or elsewhere in the world). Is it possible for an unknown to break out onto the scene and become a hit based on what they know that’s better or different from what Big Guy Guru has to say? Of course it is.But in order to do this, the Internet marketer has to come onto the marketplace with insurmountable confidence so that his or her target audience will believe the message that’s being sold.A guru isn’t someone who knows better how to do something. A guru, in the Internet marketing world, is someone who did it in an

Should Non-Internet Entrepreneurs Give Advice to New Online Businesses?
Business is Business right? If you have an MBA you can run any business right? Wrong and let me tell you why. There are many folks who are quite good at making money on the Internet but the truth is only about 1-3% of the Internet Sites out there that sell stuff ever make any money or even pay for their site development. Not long ago someone who knew of all my past business experience as an entrepreneur asked if I might review their business plan for an online business they were starting. Knowing that there is a big difference between real businesses and Internet businesses, I declined and stated;I am not sure my feedback is relevant to any sort of online business models, websites which are used for generating money, that really is not my thing, I wouldn't want to give advice on that subject, I do not know anything about it to be reliable in my opinion. Yes, perhaps more than the average guy on the street, but there are super stars in that type of business who really know how to generate money online. Why this stance you ask? Simple really, you see mostly, I am troubled by all the abuse, trickery, tactics and scammers out there online. It makes me very angry they ruining of the Internet. I believe th
