I use to think I was doing pretty well for myself. I had a five-year old car, rented a nice apartment, and lived paycheck to paycheck. Savings accounts, well, I reasoned with myself, those are for old people. I was twenty-seven years old and working in the mailroom at small brokerage firm in New York.
