For the third and forth quarters of 2006 the Katy area surrounding the west section of I-10 has been the number one producing area. Sugar Land is still strong at number 3. Both areas are in Fort Bend County.
Sugar Land was recently reported as being the number one market in Fort Bend County for the entire year of 2006. There are many changes that are planned for all of Fort Bend County in 2007.
Fort Bend County encompasses such cities as Sugar Land, Katy, Fulshear, Richmond, Rosenberg, Needville and some other towns. It stretches over a number of freeways; the two most traveled being Interstate 10 and US 59. Closely being watched is the expansion of Mason Road which will connect from 90 in Richmond to 290 north of Interstate 10.
The first project calls for the widening of FM 359 from two to four lanes from US 90A to Farmer Road. This project is tentatively scheduled for a December 2007 date to begin construction. The second project calls for the widening of FM 359 from Farmer Road to FM 723. This project is not as far along in the development process as the first project. We are in the process of developing design alternatives to address to address the increasing traffic demand as well as safety issues such as the FM 359/Holmes Road intersection. The date to begin construction of this section of FM 359 has not been set at this time, and it could be up to 10 years from now before it begins.
Katy Texas is seeing outstanding growth to the recent construction on I-10 that will widen it to 13 lanes. There has also been another freeway connecting to the heart of Houston which is the Westpark Tollroad. This now enables people a choice for the first time for traveling east to downtown Houston.
Sugar Land was voted 3rd best place to live by Money Magazine and new construction is continually happening. Memorial Herman Hospital just recently opened a full service hospital on US 59 and the Grand Parkway. This will allow the growing area of Greatwood the opportunity for convenient medical care.
