Business administration degrees help in that they represent an organized and systematic body of knowledge. They also play a pivotal part in formalizing methods of acquiring knowledge and skills followed by existence of an ethical code to regulate the behavior of the members of the profession. We hear a lot about professional managers and their contribution to the economic development of the nation. A closer examination of management as a profession reveals that unlike law or medicine, management has to go a long way to have a universally

Want To Work With Wildlife? Become A Wildlife Management Professional!
Wildlife can get out of control at times and someone is needed to put it "back in control". Wildlife managers do this every day. From rescuing a squirrel that took a wrong turn down a chimney to a garter snake that made its way under the door, this is normal territory for the Professional Nuisance Wildlife Manager. So many people would love to work with wildlife and struggle to find a job in the governmental sector. They often do not know that there are many private company opportunities that exist in wildlife management.Governmental jobs are hard to come by and the ones who have these jobs keep them for as long as they can. This makes i
Q: One of the big chain bookstores recently opened up near my small book store. Already I can see my business starting to decline. Is there anything I can do to compete with the bigger store or should I just accept the inevitable? -- Peter Q.

A: A wise man once said, "The inevitable is never a sure thing."

Don't be so quick to close the book on your business, Peter. You probably can't compete with the superstore on volume of inventory or on price, but there are other things you can do to help keep the customers coming in your door. One of the best ways to ensure customer loyalty is to offer superior customer service.

It's funny that you're a bookseller. Let me tell you about my last visit to one of the big chain bookstores just a few weeks ago.

Job Search Tip: Build Your Personal Asset Bank!
Conducting a successful job search means anticipating the expectations of a decision-maker.Whether you meet in a traditional interview or in the alternate “first meeting” format we recommend, you must be prepared to meet expectations.Take a look at yourself and your work history through the eyes of a prospective employer. It helps you objectify your credentials. Because, if they don’t make sense to a prospective employer, they DON’T MAKE SENSE . . . no matter how thrilling they are to you.Fortunately you have plenty of marketable assets that will attract an employer’s attention. In particular there are three categories of marketabl

Reduce Payment Processing Costs by Converting Debit-Card Customers to Direct-Debit Payments
It seems that banks are constantly coming up with new ways for us to pay bills and withdraw money. First there were paper checks, then credit cards, then ATM cards, then debit cards linked to bank accounts, and now ACH electronic funds transfers. Of course, with each new payment method comes a new set of fees passed on to account holders and merchants. The smart merchant will weigh the pros and cons of each method with regards to safety, accountability, and processing cost, and then design her business practices to maximize profits without compromising customer service. This article will help merchants do this by comparing two very similar payment

The Adventures of Wolley Segap -- Knowing the Drill
It all started a week ago. I was driving home from another long, waste-of-time sales meeting, at the office, when I noticed a strange sensation in my mouth. It began as a slight annoying throbbing. Being the macho-type guy I was, I tried to ignore it while getting through the following day. But it persisted and eventually commanded my full attention. So, days later, when I woke up and decided that the entire national armed forces had decided to conduct an all-out training exercise in my mouth with live ammo and bombs, it was time to focus on the real problem.I hate dentists. More precisely, I hate having them peer at me while hovering with an assort

Know It Before You Are Handed The Pink Slip
“When death cometh calling, it cometh not empty handed, it also brought the pink slip.”I think this is the remark of a person who did not even care to read the signals regarding his impending layoff. Even though I am not suggesting that he doesn’t deserve to continue in his job for some reason, we can’t forget the body blow that job loss delivers.Events Leading Up To LayoffsYou can’t expect the sequence of events to be long enough for you to notice that something is brewing. The timeframe could be very short or your name could be added to the long list in the case of a mass layoff. However, the situations vary from time to time and fro
n to find the classic book, The Once and Future King, for a school project that has to be done over the summer. It was a Sunday afternoon and the store was crawling with customers. We spent fifteen minutes scouring this great warehouse of a bookstore, but couldn't find the book anywhere. We also couldn't find anyone who worked there to ask for help.

Finally, I went up to the front counter and asked the apathetic looking teenager who was manning the register if they had the book in stock. She looked at me as if I'd asked her to do advanced calculus in her head and said, "I dunno."

I asked if she might check her computer for me. She looked at me again, this time as if I'd just asked her to rotate the tires on my car without a jack. After a minute of tapping the keys with her long fingernails (which were painted black, by the way) she said, "Yeah, we have it."

"Great," I said. "Where can I find it?"

She glanced at the screen again and said, "It says that it's in the classics
