If the electric current changes in any way (for example, if a cord comes into contact with water), the GFCI immediately shuts off the flow of electricity. There are also a number of things you should avoid in order to increase electric-related safety around the construction site. First, don’t let water collect on the floor while you’re working with electric equipment and lines. Remove water before it can accumulate. Water and electricity do not mix! Next, avoid stringing along electrical wires and lines over floors. This is a safety hazard and must be avoided. Finally, be careful not to damage insulated covers and protectors.

Finally, in order to increase construction safety around electricity, construction workers and team members should always assume that any piece of electrical equipment or any lines (wiring, etc.) in and around the site are “live,” or energized, unless otherwise tested and publicly noted.
