Nevertheless, the people of different nations long for each other! People abroad are looking for something that their society has lost. It turns out that the difference attracts people, but at the same time it causes conflicts.
A simple example. One of our couples is waiting for a fianc?e visa, the groom writes in the letter to his bride that when she comes to America, she will find the full wardrobe of clothes for herself which used to be his sister’s. She died from cancer at the young age, that’s why all her clothes are modern and in good state. I don’t know if it is really common to wear the clothes that belonged to the deceased? Tell me about it! Because recently the stories like this happen quite often: some men even bring things of the deceased as a gift, as a souvenir, as a keepsake. Judging by this I can conclude that American people think that’s ok. However, it will shock any Russian!!! Most Russians won’t put on things of the dead. For centuries people made up horror stories about those who took the things of the dead! Folk tales are ruthless: those people either die or give everything back and repent :)
This is taboo that stays deeply in mind. Now imagine yourself in the shoes of this girl: to refuse means to hurt the memory of his sister, but at the same time she won’t be able to wear these clothes. Add to this the hard adaptation period in a new country without relatives and friends. What will she feel?
Certainly, there are exceptions. There are people without any superstitions; there are very poor people who are glad to any clothes. Everything I write about in newsletters is only a general tendency, all people are different. But it is necessary to know about these things if you want to have a Russian wife.
The exception is family relics and jewelry. They are passed on from generation to generation. But people don’t wear these things every day, just keep them and from time to time blow dust off them. :)
Here is one more example of completely different traditions. It is a custom in Russia to give odd number of flowers. Very often our clients order, for example 10 roses and we have to explain each time that odd number of flowers is given only to the dead. There was an incident when a Russian girl slapped a foreign man in the face with the bouquet of 4 roses!!!
Well, and the last example. (It is possible to give a lot of them, but it is not the purpose of the article). Russian married people wear a wedding (engagement) ring on the right hand, divorced – shift it on the left one. How is it in your country? Suppose, the other way round?

If there is love in your family, it will only enrich your spirit. You will find what you missed in your environment: new outlook, renewed life, family values. But how to achieve it and to overcome the first barriers of misunderstanding?
The advice is simple:
1. Communicate more with Russian people, learn their culture, take interest in customs. Be active: spend Christmas in Russia, take part in Russian wedding, accept the invitation to the birthday party of your lady’s friend, visit Russian church. At that, soak up the information like a sponge.
2. Try to read the books of the Russian authors. I know many clients who started looking for a wife among Russian girls after they had read Russian authors. I understand that it sounds impracticable! :)) Ha-ha-ha! But it is one of the right ways!
3. If you came to a difficult situation with your bride or a wife, don’t rush to make conclusions! Possibly, it is just the situation when your outlooks on life didn’t agree! Your actions: talk about it with someone from Russia. Or you can ask for help at the Husbands of Russian Wives’ Community. I’ve met these kinds of associations in the Internet. And make sure to explain the cause of your each action. It seems obvious to you, but not to your wife! Imagine that you are communicating with Mowgli who was brought up in the jungles. The comparison is possibly insulting for women, but it is to the point. Instead of jungles there is another country, and instead of animals – the people of a different nationality, possibly less familiar, less studied than some kinds of animals!
