Advertising on a Budget -- Part 2: Thinking Small
This is the second article of a three-part series. I'm illustrating the marketing challenges of a small business, PrescottWeddings.com.Our goal was to both build the PWC brand and drive traffic to the Web site. Advertising regularly was essential. Yet it was also essential to keep our costs down. So we leveraged our monthly newspaper advertising to stretch our marketing dollar as far as we could. How did we do that? We "thought small."We bought one inch by two column inch ads (a column inch in this particular publication is approx. 1.88 inches). The ads were one inch high and almost 4 inches long.To reflect the small ad, the copy also had to be short and sweet.

But here are a few things to consider as you start the new year.

If tightness in the job market continues, wages will drive upward, economists say. With unemployment so low—the 4.4 percent reading in October was the lowest in five years—businesses have found themselves having to bid up pay a bit to fill vacancies.

People in their 20s change jobs every 18 months and 75% of all workers are job hunters—stats recently reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Wall Street Journal’s executive career site, CareerJournal.com.

Reducing costs without reducing offerings and services is the top management issue, according to the recent 2006 Multichannel Merchant’s Benchmark Survey on Critical Issues and Trends.

Desktop Branding With Printed Mouse Mats
Branding is an important part of the way your company is represented. Bringing together a name, logo, and other essential information to create a recognizable brand is no easy task, but it is a crucial aspect of getting your business noticed and remembered.Consider the potential for company branding on the average desktop—pens and coffee mugs will immediately spring to mind, of course. These two items are perhaps the most well-known and widely-used desktop promotional items. The printed mouse mat, while not as commonly used for promotional merchandising, is an increasingly popular desktop promotional item. Computers are now an essential item for most businesses and home offices, so it makes perfect s

    Are Meetings Killing Your Business?
Too often in my many years toiling in the Corporate world I had to sit through poorly facilitated meetings that started late, ended late and had no clear stated purpose. Starting my career in the early 1980's, as a Professional Purchasing Agent, I was fortunate to have been trained in Kepnor-Tregoe methodologies at a time when the organization I was working for was investigating 'Consensus Decision Making'. I won't spend any time in this blog post speaking about consensus decision making except to say it does not work. Someone ultimately needs to make a decision or you will create an over budget camel when a cost efficient horse was the true objective. However, I was trained in problem solving and decision

Where to Find Wholesale Security Cameras
There are many companies that offer wholesale security cameras and surveillance systems. For the most part, their customers are businesses large and small who have a security need beyond the single household system. Since businesses purchase a lot of items wholesale, there are companies that offer the hardware necessary at wholesale prices. In addition to the hardware required for a state of the art security system, there are costs involved in the installation, training and maintenance for those systems. And the more complex the system, the higher those ancillary costs will be. The companies that provide the hardware at wholesale prices are usually the same ones that charge a healthy fee to install th

Applying for Work in the UK
If you are looking for a job in the UK, whether as a foreigner wishing to relocate, or as a British national, you may find yourself faced with having to fill in a job application form. What is the difference between an application form and a CV?When designing your CV, you can choose the layout and, more importantly, what to include and what not to include. For example, if you have been working for more than 10 years, it is common to include only the last 10 years experience on a CV, or if you have changed career, to include only the experience and training relevant to the post for which you are applying. However, in the interests of equal opportunities, a job application form requires every app

Growing Demand Ignites New War For Talent.

I’m being told what you already know: It’s becoming increasingly difficult to recruit highly qualified individuals to fill key positions. I’m talking mostly leadership roles—senior level, managerial positions—but I can assure you, the problem exists at lower levels as well.

I’m hearing it everywhere. From the latest surveys, people I meet at conferences, other recruiters, from corporate hiring officers at catalog, online, retail, and B-to-B merchants.

Multichannel merchants are finding it hard filling key positions in just about every functional area: in general management, merchandising, marketing, e-Commerce, IT, operations. Along with reducing costs without reducing offerings and services, finding first-rate, experienced talent has become a top management issue.
