I was reading an interesting story on President Bush in Yahoo News (because, of course, I so seldom get away from my PC). There was a picture of the president trying to make a hasty retreat from reporters in Beijing, only to discover that the doors had been locked. Apparently, he hadn't decided on an exit strategy beforehand. His predicament reminded me of a problem that entrepreneurs may often or certain features in their employer. It continues to amaze us as we visit different businesses how little attention is paid to some of the basics in the work place.
I came to the conclusion that it's the freedom that counts.When mulling over why I am such an advocate of people working in your own business in some form I ranged over the options.Is it?1. WantingTo be rich?A better lifestyle?More time with your family and friends?More time for sports and recreation?2. Or a need toFulfil businesses how little attention is paid to some of the basics in the work place.
Why would someone put up with poor pay, disinterested management, run down physical surroundings, poor equipment and sub standard recreation facilities (and by this we mean something as basic as a lunch room and tea and coffee!) if they had a choice.
Those are just the basics. To really compete, you need more.
