To understand how and why penis enlargement methods work, it is important to understand the composition and mechanics of the penis. The center of the penis is formed by two cylindrical chambers of spongy tissue and the top of the penis. These are called the Corpora Cavernosa. Underneath them is another cylindrical chamber of spongy tissue that surrounds the urethra called the Corpus Spongiosum. Two dorsal veins run along the top of the penis, above the Corpora Cavernosa. On either side of them the dorsal nerve and artery run along the length of the shaft as well. Surrounding these chambers is the tunica albuginea, a fibrous envelope made up of unstriped muscular tissue. The tunica is often the target of stretching techniques.

When the penis is sexually stimulated, these internal chambers become filled with blood, causing an erection. * Cowper's Glands- these glands secrete a small amount of pre-ejaculate as sexual stimulation increases prior to orgasm.

* Dorsal side- the upper or top part of the penis. Dorsal nerves and arteries run along its length from base to tip.

* Ejaculatory ducts- the path through which semen travels from the seminal glands to the urethra during ejaculation.

* Epididymis- A structure of coiled sperm ducts attached to the back of the scrotum the store spermatozoa until maturation and transport sperm between the testes and vas deferens.

* Foreskin, prepuce- A roll of skin covering the head of the penis in uncircumcised men. This skin is extremely sensitive.

* Frenulum, frenum- A thin strip of flesh running along the underside of the penis connecting the shaft to the head.

* Glans- Also known as the head of the penis. In uncircumcised men, this area is the most sensitive area of the penis and is covered by the prepuce or foreskin. In circumcises men, it is the sensitive, bulbous tip of the penis.

* Meatus- The opening at the end of the urethra that allows for the emptying of urine and ejaculate/semen.

* Perineum- the area between the scrotum and the anus. Very sensitive.

* Prostrate Gland- the gland responsible for producing semen. The prostate gland also squeezes the urethra shut, separating it from the bladder to prevent the mixing of semen and urine. This would destroy the pH balance required to maintain semen.

* Pubococcygeus muscle- Also known as the PC or pelvic floor muscle. It helps control urination and ejaculation.

* Scrotum- The scrotum is the sac of skin containing the testes. It is located behind and below the penis. The scrotum is designed to maintain the temperature of the testes as 34 degrees Celsius. This is the ideal temperature for sperm production.

* Raphe- the visible ridge of skin running from the meatus to the perineum vertically along the scrotum.

* Semen- the fluid that is released during ejaculation. 2-5% of semen is sperm. The bulk, however, is seminal plasma comprised of high concentrations of zinc and amines that protect sperm from the acidic environment of the vagina.

* Seminal vesicles- The seminal vesicles produce semen, the fluid the protects and transports sperm safely during ejaculation.

* Shaft- the main length of the penis made up of the Corpora Cavernosa, Corpus Spongiosum, urethra, cavernosal artery, dorsal veins, arteries, and nerves. It is encased by the tunica albuginea. Around that is the delicate epidermis surrounding the penis.

* Smegma- A substance with a cheese-like texture secreted by glands on each side of the frenulum. The substance is made up of oils, skin cells, and moisture. It usually occurs in uncircumcised men and accumulates between the foreskin and glans. Improper cleaning may lead to urinary tract infections.
