    Job Descriptions
The growing brotherhood of youth hunting for better job prospects in cities all over the world is pointing to the lack of entrepreneurial skills among youth. If job sites or advertisements are offering any information pertaining to employment, then it is only illustrative of the jobs that are available in a section of the industry. In fact, this young generation approaches such job offers with anticipation and desperation to try to target and identify possible job opportunities. With the advent of sites that are giving information on jobs, there are fewer adverts in the print media than ever. The promising words and descriptions force many young job applicants to seri

When Politics Prevent Innovation - Or... Still Fighting Battles and Losing Wars
The objective is to beat the competition and make money. Everything a business organization does should be focused on that simple objective, with interpretation through various Vision and Mission Statements. However if we take a survey of how our organizations spend our energy, often that objective is lost in a web of internal politics and positioning. Of course competition is normally good – regardless of whether it is internal or external – to the point we do not lose focus on company objectives as the ultimate outcome of our competition. We often use the phrase “winning battles and losing wars.” That phrase really hits home when we record all the things we do,
Like anything in life, if you don’t have a clear focus, it’s much harder to become successful. Networking is no different.

Without focus, your networking success will be limited. Try to think strategically about networking and your end goal. By having a plan ready, you will be more focused and you will better understand what you need to do to reach your objective.

Depending on your need, your networking efforts will vary.

Be ready to change your plan often. Over time, you will have a good basis for what you need to do in all networking scenarios. By answering the questions below, you will be able to better focus your networking, which will ultimately make you more successful.

    What’s My Need?

When a need arises for most people, we immediately start to think about ways to fulfill that need. Networking is one method people use. Whether you’re looking for a job, employee, client or partner, networking can help.

Brand Equity Building - Measuring Brand Value
Measuring brand equity allows a company to establish a baseline and track changes in its brand equity over time. If a company consistently works to improve the strength of its brands, it must trace progress, or risk "flying blind." Changes in a quantitative measurement of brand equity can show the company the effects of its work, and greatly aid in setting marketing and management priorities in the next business planning cycle.Once a brand equity measurement system is established, a company can better understand and therefore determine if equity in a given brand can be leveraged or transferred to an entirely new product or service category. Thus, a firm can increase

Turn Your Team Into Top Performers
Most of us have known a few LOSERS in our career. Problems surface and we face challenges. Who are the ones we call losers? Where did they come from? How did we end up with them on our payroll? Who hired them?Complainers, out on Monday, sick every other week, demanding and always looking at the clock to go home or slip out early. What do you do? You have hired someone who has turned into a bad influence on your staff. Unacceptable behavior cannot be tolerated. Something has to be done. Immediately!DAMAGE CONTROLNow your concern is with other employees. One bad apple can create problems with other staff members. How can we a

    Market Research Ignorance
Recently, I was invited to participate in a focus group for women regarding casual restaurants. The panel consisted of eight other young women who frequented casual restaurants enough to be informed on the subject to be able to properly provide information regarding them. The focus group started off well enough - the panel conductor introduced herself, and asked us to do the same. She did this to simply create a better group dynamic, not for record collection purposes. She then proceeded to ask us to write down our top five casual restaurants on a piece of paper. Once done, as a group we compiled a listing of these restaurants. There was a lot of overlap, especially w

So You Want To Get A Franchise?
So, you want to get a franchise? You figure it’s a good way to be your own boss, without the risk if going it alone? Here are a few ideas to consider:The Location - The location of a business matters a lot. It's critical to its success. It makes little sense to buy an ice cream business franchise if you intend to run your operations from Greenland. Consider the prevailing circumstances before you make a choice. The Franchisor – An obvious one; who are you buying the business from? Quiz up the franchisor. Behind what’s said, and not said, and their tone, you’ll get a good idea of whether you want to proceed with them. Franchisors are keen to sell to intending fr

To help you relay your need to others, you want to make sure you have a focused and prepared message. Put together an elevator pitch. This is a short summary of who you are, what you do, what you’re looking for and how you can help others.

It should be about 30 to 45 seconds in length.

By creating an elevator pitch, you will force yourself to think strategically about your objective. When meeting others, they will be able to tell that you’re focused and will tend to take you more seriously. They’ll also remember you.

Because you have to develop relationships with people, it may take some time to have your need met.

In fact, before you can expect others to help you, you should concentrate on helping them first. Instead of attending networking events for no particular purpose, you will now have an understood reason to attend. Networking will therefore become more useful and valuable for you.

Who Do I Want to Meet?

Once you understand your need, the next step is to think about the
