Change Management and Decreases in Innovative Spirit
Any time there is a change in management at the corporate level it can cause a conflict with productivity, efficiency and innovation. For those companies that rely on innovative spirit to propel their profits such decreases can spell disaster for the department or division. Consider if you will a project manager who is rapidly reassigned to another division or another important project. The project team may not gel as well with the new brand new manager and that means the efficiency in productivity in the project flies out the window. Worse off, often we see a decrease in the innovative spirit and that can cause a disaster and even cause the project to fail. All too often we find that project managers in large corporations become part of the innovative backbone

They are given a 1099 for the year worked and it is up to them to file and maintain their own tax records. However, you are not able to dictate when they work or what hours they work. They are independent contractors and must be treated as such.
It's Time To Exchange Customers, Honey!
Have you ever tried to change a boy-friend/spouse/partner into something YOU wanted?Be honest here.I remember my foolish attempts to get my Harley-riding, chain-smoking, long-haired first boy-friend to try reading (anything), dancing, getting cool clothes or going to a "chick-flick".I reallllllly wanted him to try reading Shakespeare or something by Margaret Laurence so he could understand my tormented bibliophile soul. He'd flip his head back (to get the hair out of his eyes) and then look at me as if I had horns growing out of my head.I know. I know. It didn't work because I was 16 and because...PEOPLE DON'T CHA
    Home Based Business for Women

A home based business has become a way of life for many of us. To have a work from home business success story, I would like to give you an insight on how to start a home business and and some of the pros and cons for women working at home. I started my first business in 1993. I had been a medical transcriptionist for 13 years and the hospital I was working for at the time was closing its doors. I also knew there had to be a better way for single women raising children (as was the case with me) to make a substantial living and work at home. About one year into the business it was time to hire some help. This was a struggle for me in terms of the exact point I actually could hire someone and not "cut my nose off to spite my face". Hiring your first employee or independent contractor is all timing. Once my business was established, I tried conventional advertising in newspapers which was prohibitively expensive and I found that word of mouth (based on my reputation in my field of expertise, medical transcription) was more successful.

The first thing you would need to do when starting your home based business is to decide how far you want to go with it, what are your goals and how are you going to meet those goals. You will also need to decide whether to hire employees or independent contractors. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. With employees you will need to take care of all tax deductions for payroll. You would be able to give them definitive hours and days they are to work. With independent contractors, you do not have to take care of tax deductions for them. They are given a 1099 for the year worked and it is up to them to file and maintain their own tax records. However, you are not able to dictate when they work or what hours they work. They are independent contractors and must be treated as such.

Stop Shaking A Stick At Sales Training
I ran across a very insightful article in CLO Magazine today written by Tina Teodorescu (I had to cut and paste that one!). The article, “How Effective is Your Sales Training Program?” talks about the unique challenges of developing an effective training program for people that fund your payroll.Tina brings light to the fact that we’ve come to rely on Sales Managers, who were in many cases top performers themselves, to develop their team’s talent. The problem is these people were promoted because of their excellent sales skills, not their employee development skills. In other cases we rely on HR or T&D to develop these programs when they don’t have a sufficient understanding of the dynamics of sales to do so.The article mentions using you

DVD for Builders-Using DVD for Customer Service
You have just completed a $450,000 house for a couple. They have all the latest appliances as well as a totally “wired” home for their computers as well as stereo. Also included in their dream home is swimming pool, hot tub and various kitchen gizmos and gadgets too numerous to mention. All of these different devices have instructions as well as different warranties and preventive maintenance guides. How do you keep your new owner informed and pleased with all facets of his home for many years to come? You would also like to do this without having to send a "punch list" man over to their home every week or two? How about this situation? You’ve just hired a new man for assistant superintendent. He seems eager, bright and has some basic knowledge already. How

    Maximize Brand Recognition: Signature Brand
Who do you know? The signature trademark on a product gets recognition, because we recognize the signature. Effective branding using signatures has been used for generations, from Paul Newman salad dressings to Eddie Bauer vehicles, signature-branding results in brand recognition. Using a well-known name on your product maximizes the recognition factor, by acknowledging a well-known name; you gain marketing power with the popularity of the person you tribute.Developing a product for your business often means finding an appropriate name for the product. Once your name becomes recognized, the best name for the product is a signature. When you sign a product, the signature indicates value. Putting your name on a product implicates trust, and brings acceptance by th

    Use Pain To Get Commitments
Whenever I speak with new salesreps and entrepreneurs, I hear a similar frustration: "I call a lot of prospects each week, most of which are really hard to get a hold of. When I do get someone on the line, I am thrilled just to talk to them. I sell a great product, yet very few of these people actually buy, even though they sound very interested." So I usually ask them, "Did you get a commitment?" The answer is... well you can guess the answer. Without a commitment, you are left hanging as to whether or not the sale is really moving forward. Now this doesn't happen only with new salespeople. It happens with experienced salespeople also. I see experienced salespeople going after competitive deals all the time, forgoing commitments in the

I would like to now touch on a very important issue of owning a home based business, the pros and cons for your employees - independent contractors and what you as a business owner should know and relate to them when they are hired. Here are some of the pros and cons of a home based business I feel are important to mention:

    Pros:

    1. Home with children, able to participate more in their activities with school etc.

    2. Do not need to drive in winter J

    3. Make your own hours (independent contractors).

    4. Able to work as much or as little depending on your unique situation.

    5. Reached my goals as a professional.

    Cons of working at home:

    1. Stress level of maintaining a business -The task of remaining grounded will be a huge help with this issue.

    2. Non-socialization.

    3. Computer burnout.

    4. Depression.

It is up to you as the employer to let your employee or independent contractor understant the need for them to get enough exercise during the day, even stepping outside for a short walk helps, the need to take shower and groom at the start of their day, as if going out to work. This is extremely important for their health (and yours) and well being. Life working at home is harder than one would think but also has its advantages.

Now, on to my new business and how this came about. I started making soap in 2003 and actually started my soap business in 2006 in order to begin my retirement process and found that this is what I truly love
