Are You Making The Same Costly Mistake Many Other Small Business Owners Make?
I spent a number of years consulting with small business owners on a daily basis, and I can unequivocally state that most of them had an extremely good understanding of the daily operations of their businesses. Unfortunately, most of them didn't have even a fair understanding of the general business principles that are ultimately responsible for determining their success or failure. So, while the owner of an Air Conditioning / Heating Service might know virtually everything there is to know about Air Conditioning and Heating systems, he or she wouldn't know nearly enough about proper recordkeeping or marketing or customer service. I saw this same problem in every industry I worked in.What is the source of this problem? Too often, the owners are still acting like they are employees. They are so busy doing the actual work or managing the actual work that they don't have time to properly manage their business (or at least they don't think they have time). To express it in a more comical way, these business owners are too busy working to properly run their business. It's like the old Lucy show in which Lucy is working on the assembly line, and the results are too often the same.So how do you avoid getting on this "Failure Treadmill"? And if you're already on it, how do you get off? Planning is the key. Although you may not be able to anticipate every single thing that can happen in your business, you can anticipate many of the necessary duties and functions of operating a successful business. For example, you should put a good recordkeeping system in place before you ever open your business. You should have a well-conceived marketing plan before yo

7 Tips for Re-entering the Job Market
Re-entering the job force after a break in your career can be a little overwhelming. Crazy thoughts may race through your mind. Where do I begin? What if there are no jobs? What if there are jobs but no one will hire me?Yes, looking for employment is always unnerving. But, with a little planning and calm thinking, you can make job re-entry a positive turning point in your life. Here, then, are a few steps you might consider while making the move to re-enter the job market:1. Recognize all your options. Don't be limited by the work you were doing in the past. Make sure your previous work was something which really made you happy, not just a way to earn a living. It can be dissatisfying to get a job, be there a few months, and then realize it's no longer something you want to do. Consider all your options, because, yes, you do have options. Make sure that resuming your previous career is the right path before heading back in that direction. Accepting temporary or freelance work would be a good way to experiment with new fields and opportunities. Many temp agencies these days are offering more benefits, such as health insurance and vacation pay, which makes the experimenting a lot easier on your budget.2. Be realistic. If you choose to go back into your previous career, be mindful that significant changes may have occurred in your career, making it impossible for to step back into the same position. You might have to actually take a step back on the career ladder. For example, people who were once mid-managers may now need to consider entry-level positions until you gain the necessary skills.3. Brush up on your skills. If you've become "outdated," d

Your Business Plan Will Become Your Partner
Are you planning to start a new business? Or are you considering expanding your current business and require a bank loan or investment from outsiders? If you are going to look for an investment of capital it is quite likely that you will be required to have a business plan. If you are starting a business, despite the work involved, a business plan can prepare you for the obstacles ahead and help ensure your success.A business plan is something that many small businesses fail to create, however, many business owners are adamant that having a written business plan is one of the keys to their present success. Creating a business plan forces you to contemplate possible obstacles to your business and prepares you to find solutions that will help you to overcome them.To find investors or get a bank loan, they will want to see that you have the experience or resources to run the business. They will want to see your projected income as well as your suggested repayment plan already laid out. Taking the time to do this is not only important for them, but it gives you a measuring tool to verify if your business is growing properly. You can gage your success on how close to the plan your business has actually performed. Perhaps you'll do worse, or perhaps you'll do better, either way it helps you determine how well your business is getting on.If you have never seen a business plan before you may be concerned that is is too difficult a proposition for you to manage on your own. While there are services available where you can hire someone to write a business plan for you, depending on your needs it may be wise to familiarize yourself with a business plan's layout.

What Attributes Are Needed to Run a Successful Business?
With the expansion of the internet and financial stability within the economy, many people are now taking the big step of starting up their own business. This article will look at a single personal attribute that is needed if you want to make that business a success.Being organised is the most important attribute a person needs if they want to be successful in the world of business. Nowadays, many business managers are disorganised however these people generally rely on the services of organised assistants and secretaries. Many disorganised managers run financially successful companies; however is money the only gauge to measure the success of a business? My own thoughts are; having a successful business is NOT purely about money, there are other factors to consider. The happiness of your workforce, health issues (stress), customer relations and the long term future of your business/company.The Happiness of the Workforce. People like routine especially when working; it gives them a feeling of comfort and security. Having a structured routine generally only comes about when a business is fully organised from top to bottom. Systems of work are put in place, these systems need to be understood and constantly monitored. Without a proper structure and understandable systems of work, your employees will not be happy perhaps resulting in them working in a stressful environment. The days when working practices are all in the Gaffer’s head, are well gone.Stress. I am personally an organised person; in my working career I have managed large numbers of people, in difficult and trying circumstances. None of the businesses I have managed performed poorly. My wife however is d

    Ready, Set, Advertise
Most of us are impatient; we want our advertising to spark an immediate sales increase. That's equivalent to giving a builder one week to construct a three-bedroom home without a blueprint. Think of the planning process as drawing a blueprint for your advertising campaign structure. First you design the framework, next you fill in the details, and finally you begin to build. I. Design the Framework What is the purpose of your advertising program? Start by defining your company's long-range goals then map out how marketing can help you attain them. Next, zero in on possible advertising routes that are complementary to your marketing efforts, and be specific. Set measurable goals so you can evaluate the success of your advertising campaign. For example, do you want to increase overall sales by 20 percent this year? Do you want to boost sales to existing customers by 10 percent during each of the next three years? Do you want to appeal to younger or older buyers? Do you want to sell off old products to free resources for new ones? How much can you afford to invest? Keep in mind that whatever amount you allocate is never enough. Even corporate giants such as Proctor and Gamble and Pepsi always feel they could augment their advertising budgets. But given your income, expenses and sales projections, simple addition and subtraction can help you determine how much you can afford to invest. Some companies spend a full 10 percent of their gross income on advertising, others just 1 percent. Sorry, there is no fixed rule. II. Fill in the Details What are the feat

That does not matter. My cousin is a doctor and now worries he may be cut off because the government is downsizing. Is professional destination a guarantee for success, money or fame?As mentioned in "Rich Dad Poor Dad", the industrial age has passed and the information age has come. It was talking how the internet has changed the world…An example:A 15 year old kid was answering complicated legal questions by a pair of troubled couples. They were inquiring some complicated issues with asset allocation after their divorce. With the excellent professional advices provided, the couples thought they were dealing with a experienced attorney.Note: inqueries were answered through emailsDoes it ring the bell?
