I was taken aback when I read the statement that the Department of Telecommunication has banned some 20 'objectionable' web sites and blogs. Access to all blogs and web sites hosted on the blogspot, typepad, blogs, and geocites.com servers is currently blocked in India.

According to our constitution – ‘All people of India be guaranteed and secured social, economic and political justice; equality of status and opportunities before law; and fundamental freedoms - of talk, expression, belief, faith, worship, vocation, association and action - subject to law and public morality.’

Then why the government has taken such a step? Why we, the general public are being forced to keep mum? For me, nothing is over our constitution, I respect our fundamental freedoms but we cannot tolerate an autocratic decision by the government.

When our national constitution has granted me the freedom to talk and express, then why is the government cracking the bridge between our thought and a platform where we express our thinking?

Yes! Blogs serves as a platform where we, the masses, can express our thoughts freely but the move from the government is disappointing. Blogs are a comfortable way to share our views, feeling, knowledge etc. with others. Why is the government trying to torture our mind?

Finally, I would like to say that I totally disagree with the government’s decision to ban some major blog sites. And, I also would like to appeal to our friends to come forward and speak without any hesitation. What are your opinions on this decision? Just let them come out here.
