With all that connectivity, there are the spammers, con artists, and less-than-honest marketers, trying to make a buck off the Internet. They prey those seeking quick roads to wealth and help spread the word about cheap ways to set up a web store. On the other hand, I represent the opposite spectrum. I run a legitimate, home-based web business doing e-commerce and I am investing a lot of money to make it happen.

I have a web developer for design and implementation. They also do the hosting off a dedicated server. I pay them a large hourly wage to insure that everything from content to links to the merchant area, works perfectly. We are designing a total SEO, or search engine optimization program along with PPC or pay per clicks. I took over a year in researching the marketplace to attract the right partners and view the competition. I also went through two other web people that failed to meet our needs. Now we have a completely automated site with auto-replies and valuable content that aids our members. So, why am I telling you all this? Because of what I’ve learned from Yahoo Answers.

YA is a site where anyone can post a question and receive an answer from anyone else for free. It’s a great place to see how people think. You can get a good cross section of society that wants answers to questions that vary from social, legal, health, and marketing categories, to mention just a few. The reality is that, if it were that easy, you and I would not be wasting our time spending thousands for complicated and worthwhile sites. But I’m reading these postings by the hundreds almost daily. I just went to the YA, “Business & Finance, Advertising & Marketing”category again and sure enough, the first five questions were asking, “How can I market my website for free?”

It is safe to say that designing a website that produces results will take time and money. Shortcuts will not make it in this competitive world. With zillions of real sites clamoring for your attention, the fight for ad space is intense. You, the user, are becoming more sophisticated in your criteria for a good site. Why waste time with a hobbiest’s version of a website that is poorly conceived and designed? The truth is you won’t. Therefore, as a cruel and harsh criticism of all those YA posters who desire the quick fix with no effort or cost involved, I have one simple plea. KEEP IT UP!

You heard me right. Don’t stop looking for the free marketing advice. That way, the rest of us that invested the money, will get the customers and you won’t. After all, we are in business and you’re just playing around. I welcome all of those website wannabes that are doing it the lazy way and are no threat to me at all. Keep looking for the simple solution to riches and head right for YA every chance you get. I enjoy reading your pleas and how pathetic you sound. But then again, what can I expect from a twelve-year-old?
