Following all the tips and protocal to writing an effective adwords campaign for your PPC campaign will not necessarily translate into more sales. There are a number of other factors that must be considered and evaluated.

I had a personal experience several years ago when I first started working as an affiliate marketer. I won't mention the name of the company I was representing but I can tell you that it was in the online dating industry. Prior to promoting their site I had set up several campaigns for some of their competitors with little to show for my efforts. I was getting very discouraged about being able to succeed in this market.

However, one day I received a call from my affiliate manager at a popular affiliate network company. He convinced me to try promoting this new online dating/community company. So I thought I would give it one last try before throwing in the towel. I decided to simply change the urls from a campaign I had already set up for a similar company. After all, why go through all that work for nothing.

The next morning I went online to check the status of the campaign. I was blown away. I had a CTR of 14% and my conversion rate was at 40% on average. What happened? I was using the same Google Adword ads from a previous unsuccessful campaign. What was the reason for this sudden surge of financial success?

I began to do some research on the matter and investigated many possibilities. The one viable conclusion I have come to is that the only difference is that the driving force was the landing page that this company was using. I compared it to the landing page of all its competitors and found that my ads were better suited to this site. Most of the other sites were too loud and actually they were not very good at differentiating themselves from everyone else.

This new company had actually put a lot of thought into standing out from the crowd. And that is why they continue to do well. Here is the valuable lesson I walked away with:

    • be sure to evaluate the landing page of the merchant you will be representing
    • actually use their site as a visitor/potential customer would
    • inform the merchant that you would like to "test drive" their buying process without actually being charged for the product or service. This will give you an idea of any potential pitfalls that a visitor may run into and cause the loss of a possible sale. If they have a good affiliate manager then this should not be a problem (ex:apply for membership to a dating service, your membership can be terminated after you complete your "test drive", be sure to inform your spouse first!!!)

Halloween Decoration is a Key to Seasonal Success in Retail Stores
Ghosts, ghouls and goblins will soon be taking to the aisles of retail stores across the country to stock up on candy, costumes and thousands of other Halloween-related items retailers are making available this year. Retail stores often find themselves in competition with other nearby stores, doing whatever is necessary to capture the lion’s share in Halloween sales. The Complaint-O-Meter
In a past life, a former colleague of mine taught our company the concept of the Complaint-O-Meter for handling guest complaints. We’ve all been through various types of complaints as both a customer and an employee. You remember both ends of the extreme. On one hand, the Ritz Carlton hotel has empowered any employee to handle any complaint or issue up to $2,000. On the other hand are many of their competitors: Have a
