The 2007 Pet Food Crisis: Was it Preventable?
Recently a pet food manufacturer, whose wet pet foods are sold under dozens of familiar brand names, had allowed a lethal substance known as melamine to enter their products. This error wasn't discovered until over 60 million potentially contaminated units were in stores and sudden and epidemic kidney failure among cats and dogs was reported. The ensuing pet food recall affected pet owners nationwide.

The Odds Calculators - Partial Simulations vs. Compact Formulas
The purpose of this article is to make a comparison from both a mathematical and a practical point of view between the returns of partial simulations and the returns of the compact probability formulas with respect to the gambling odds. The target practical aspect is a good approximation of the real probability and is not accomplished by most part of the so-called odds calculators found on the Internet - they do not return odds (probabilities), but relative frequencies, in conditions of questionable randomness and not enough long sequence of simulations.

Enhanced ESP, Telepathy, and Mysticism in People with Autism
These remarkable individuals have led me to believe that the brain is a diffusing device rather than an emanating one. They may have easier access to altered states because their filtering devices - brain and sensory systems - are impaired. This massive disruption in normal processing may have forced them back into a dream-like state in which the right brain suddenly forced to take over left-brain functions. This in turn may allow for greater access to altered states of consciousness.

Spaghetti Origins?
It was during the nationwide discussion over the potential use of intelligent design being used as a theory in a science classroom that Bobby Henderson, a physics graduate from Oregon State University sent a letter to Kansas State Board of Education officials describing what has been termed a 'parody religion'. Henderson's new 'religion' was based on a levitating monster comprised of pasta and meatballs.

The American Bald Eagle - Facts Everyone Should Know
Many people don't know that the bald eagle has been the symbol of the United States and the nation's national bird since 1782. Sea Eagles, so common in 18th century Europe, were a common sight to America's early settlers, and it is from mistaking the two birds that the bald eagle got its name.

Can We Save Astronauts from Space Radiation
One of the biggest hurdles to travel in space will be preventing space radiation from killing our astronauts. Long-term space flight may be impossible because it might take many generations. If so, the space radiation will prevent the reproductive functions on the human body from working and therefore the spaceflight can not be longer than one human generation.

Chemistry Science Fair Projects You Can Use
Chemistry science fair projects have changed over the years; they've gotten a lot glitzier and much more technically involved. While this is has made it somewhat easier for parents, the modern trend in science fair projects tends to be to buy a science fair kit off the internet rather than make things yourself. We're going to cover old school style chemistry science fair projects that will set you apart.

Is E85 Worth the Hype?
Unless you've lived under a rock for the past few months, you've likely heard of E85, the new formulation of fuel for vehicles that is, to hear proponents put it: the wave of the future. For those unfamiliar with it, E85 is fuel that is upwards of 85% ethanol, mixed with 15% gasoline, a formulation that is both more sustainable, and in many cases cleaner for the environment. The fuel is available in 40 out of the 50 states, with locations in the remaining states expected in the near future.
But what exactly makes E85 that much different?

The Elixir of Life May Lie in Calorie Restriction
Science has known for some time that a calorie restricted diet will tend to add years to the life span. Laboratory research conducted with mice and dogs dating back to the 1930's demonstrated life extension by as much as 40%. While scientists knew this to be true based on empirical research, exactly why a calorie restricted diet has this surprising effect remained a mystery.
