Determination of Total Cyanide Without Distillation
Determination of total cyanide by normal EPA methodology requires either manual or on-line distillation from a sample acidified with a strong acid. Serious problems have been recognized with these traditional methods. This article presents interferences associated with EPA approved methods and describes a non-distillation method based on segmented flow on-line UV digestion-gas diffusion with amperometric detection. This technique eliminates the need for time-consuming distillations, has a throughput of up to 30 samples per hour, and is virtually interference free.

Biology - Birds, An Introduction
The most characteristic feature of birds is the possession of feathers. Because the bird-like reptiles of the Jurassic were becoming warm-blooded, the principle advantage of the feathery covering was probably the reduction of heat loss from a warm body. Modern birds have temperatures of about 40-41 degrees C which contributes to the high rate of metabolism necessary for the muscular activity involved in flight.
