The first thing to realise about diabetes diet guidelines are that there won't be one set of guidelines suitable for everyone. Each and every diet plan should be designed around the individual. Somebody who is overweight and has type 2 diabetes will have a completely different dietary requirement to that of an underweight person with type 1 diabetes. What's the Difference Between Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes?
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar and other symptoms. With this disorder, the beta cells of the pancreas are unable to produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels. There are two main types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is caused by an autoimmune reaction in the pancreas. Type 2 is characterized by insulin resistance and can progress to the loss of beta cell function. Both types are incurable chronic conditions, but are treatable with insulin injections and dietary changes.

What Diabetic Meters are Approved by Medicare?
There are two parts to Medicare coverage: Part A, which covers in-patient hospital care expenses and Part B, which covers medically necessary outpatient expenses. Diabetes testing supplies are deemed to be medically necessary under Medicare Part B. On January 1, 2005, Medicare increased its benefits for diabetic supplies. Medicare now covers yearly on-site testing and necessary supplies for the daily monitoring and managing of diabetes. Diabetics with full Medicare coverage can get glucose monitors, test strips and lancets for up to 80% off once they’ve met the yearly deductible. Many diabetic suppliers offer free testing supplies to Medicare recipients. To find out more about getting free diabetic supplies, talk to your doctor or your Medicare administrator.
